Ukraine war: Kyiv launches fresh bombing raid on Russian retail giant Ozon
Warehouse fire disrupts orders
Ozon said a drone attacked its logistics centre in the Adygea Republic in southern Russia. The strike triggered a fire, and emergency services went to the scene. The company said employees were evacuated and no one had been injured. Products stored at the damaged warehouse were taken off the online store, and some orders could not be fulfilled.
Ozon did not identify who was responsible. Kyiv has accused Ozon and its main competitor, Wildberries, of supporting Vladimir Putin’s war effort; both companies’ assets have been targeted by Ukraine in recent months, the report said.
Deadly strike on aid site
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said more than 50 people might still be trapped beneath rubble at a school in Komyshuvakha. The site was being used to distribute aid in the southern Zaporizhzhia region.
At least 33 people were killed when Russian glide bombs hit the school on Monday night, according to the report. Authorities said nine 3,000kg bombs struck as residents gathered to collect humanitarian aid.
People sought shelter underground during the attack, but the roof collapsed and trapped some beneath the rubble. Zelensky called it one of Russia’s largest mass killings during the war.
Diplomatic and sporting developments
The White House said US first lady Melania Trump would host representatives of Russia and Ukraine at an event in Washington on Thursday. The announcement came amid attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and the strike on the aid-distribution school.
The European Union was also set to host talks on Ukraine with the United States and others on Wednesday. Separately, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Russia and Belarus would not be allowed to compete at next month’s world junior ice hockey championships in Alberta.
