House results put Democrats on track to regain control as Trump admin blames Republican candidates in 2026 midterm election
House control in question
CNN projected that Democrats would regain control of the House, with Hakeem Jeffries on track to become speaker. If that happens, Jeffries would be the first Black speaker.
Vote counts were still arriving after millions of Americans cast ballots in the midterm elections. The results are being viewed as a verdict on Trump’s second presidency.
White House assigns blame
The White House indicated that Republican candidates would be blamed for the party’s losses. An official told News Nation, “President Trump was not on the ballot,” and said Trump voters show up when he is. Trump spent part of the evening posting repeatedly about Fox News on social media and criticizing its coverage.
Races called across states
Democrats reelected Timothy Kennedy in New York’s 26th Congressional District, John Mannion in New York’s 22nd, Delia Ramirez in Illinois’ 3rd and Yassamin Ansari in Arizona’s 3rd. Kathy Jennings also won reelection as Delaware attorney general. Republicans won or retained seats in several districts: Houston Gaines in Georgia’s 10th, Bob Latta in Ohio’s 5th, William Timmons in South Carolina’s 4th, David Joyce in Ohio’s 14th and Wes Climer in South Carolina’s 5th.
