Conductor, AI coding startup Meta acquires, hints at new offering as cloud service shuts down | techcrunch

Meta confirms the acquisition
Conductor announced its move to Meta on its blog, after Axios first reported the news. Meta confirmed the acquisition to TechCrunch but did not provide further information about the deal.
Founder and CEO Charlie Holtz wrote that Conductor was joining Meta. He also teased plans for a new customer offering by early next year, without describing what it would be.
Holtz said he looked forward to working with Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta’s Superintelligence Labs. He praised the lab’s talent in a post on X.
How Conductor’s tools work
Founded in 2024, Conductor launched its main product last summer. Its platform lets users deploy teams of AI agents across parallel workspaces to handle separate parts of a software project.
The agents can run in the cloud, on a local device or through a user’s phone. Conductor does not build the agents itself; they come from major AI labs, including Anthropic and OpenAI.
Service changes ahead
Holtz said Conductor’s core features would continue operating as before until early next year. The cloud service is an exception: it is scheduled to close on November 20. After the shutdown, Conductor will begin deleting data stored in users’ cloud accounts.
Meta’s broader AI push
Meta has spent recent months trying to catch up in AI services. The company launched its own coding agent, Muse Code, in August, and said its recently launched Muse agents had passed 10 million users. Meta has also made several AI-related acquisitions over the past year, including Moltbook, an agent platform that drew attention after going viral.
