Christopher Bell Manages a Season With a Broken Wrist, but a Title Looks Unlikely

A strong season, difficult title path

Bell said at a news conference in Martinsville that the team’s season had gone well. He recalled that four months earlier, they did not expect to be in contention entering the final race.

The year could still feel like a missed opportunity if Bell does not win the title. Reaching the Chase and remaining in the fight was uncertain, and he needs a near miracle to take the championship.

Wins and costly finishes

Bell has placed second in eight races this year and won once. That victory came in a dominant performance at Darlington, establishing him as a serious championship contender.

He also recorded three finishes of 15th or worse. The most damaging was 35th at Talladega, after he spun while trying to enter pit road.

Learning through setbacks

The Talladega spin initially appeared to be Bell’s mistake alone. Crew chief Adam Stevens said the car’s setup also contributed, as the stop was the first green-flag pit stop using the smaller spoiler for Daytona and Talladega.

Stevens said Bell does not let earlier results distract him. He credited the team’s competitive cars and Bell’s work, adding that the driver had shown growth through his injury and the season’s challenges.

Key points

  • Bell needs a near miracle to win the title in the final race.
  • He has eight second-place finishes and one win this year.
  • A 35th-place result at Talladega followed a pit-road-entry spin.
  • Adam Stevens said Bell stays focused despite setbacks.
