BAFTA Breakthrough: Ella Bruccoleri, Sophie Stone and Izuka Hoyle Among 21 Rising Creatives

A cross-sector U.K. cohort

The annual program recognizes emerging creatives working across film, television and games. BAFTA said this year’s group covers roles in casting, production, directing, performing and writing, and includes people whose work appeared in acclaimed projects over the past year.

Among the television performers named are Ella Bruccoleri, known for The Other Bennet Sister; Sophie Stone, associated with Falling; and Izuka Hoyle, associated with Prisoner. The 21-person list also includes documentary and unscripted makers, filmmakers and game creators.

Support for career growth

BAFTA describes Breakthrough as an initiative for people approaching or experiencing a significant career moment. Participants receive year-round support, including individual meetings, career guidance, networking opportunities and full BAFTA membership.

The organization says more than 330 people worldwide have taken part. Alumni have earned over 200 BAFTA nominations and more than 80 wins, according to BAFTA.

Leaders welcome the selection

BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip said the program helps creatives build lasting careers through support and connections. She also praised the cohort’s range of backgrounds and skills, saying it enriches the stories brought to screens.

Anne Mensah, Netflix’s vice president of U.K. content, said the company was proud to support the initiative for a seventh year. She linked the partnership to Netflix’s Generation N commitment to supporting emerging and mid-career U.K. talent.

More names to come

The published roster includes film, documentary and unscripted, and television categories, as well as games. Film selections include writer-director Imran Perretta for Ish and casting directors Lucy Allen and Tom Payne for Sunny Dancer.
