What if everything is a lie? George Wilkins’ best line, 3 seasons later, still defines Apple TV’s Silo masterpiece

Life inside the Silo
Based on Hugh Howey’s trilogy of novels, Silo follows people living in enormous bunkers built to protect them from a hostile outside world. They do not know how they came to live there or what made the world uninhabitable.
Juliette Nichols, an engineer played by Rebecca Ferguson, begins to discover that the accepted story may not be true. The show’s mysteries include what lies beyond the Silo and what its residents are allowed to remember.
A question that shifts everything
In the Season 1 episode “The Relic,” George Wilkins, Juliette’s former lover, asks whether everything people know and have been told by loved ones could be one large lie. Ferdinand Kingsley plays George.
Earlier episodes have already suggested that those in charge conceal the truth. George’s question widens the suspicion: nearly everyone has something to hide, and those secrets affect how people understand one another.
Evidence of deeper deception
The pilot, “Freedom Day,” introduces Silo workers who believe the outside may not be as deadly as they have been led to think. In “Holston’s Pick,” law enforcement officer Holston Becker discovers plant life beyond the Silo, rather than the war-torn landscape he expected.
“The Relic” adds further revelations: residents are under surveillance, and drugs are used to suppress their memories. Each discovery complicates the official account of the world.
Truth carries a cost
George’s words also point to the difficulty of trusting people close to the investigation. In “The Relic,” an ex-girlfriend tells Juliette that George was intensely focused on uncovering the truth and had used her to obtain illegal relics.
The warning applies both to people pursuing the conspiracy and to those enforcing it. Juliette makes difficult choices as she investigates, and the search for truth brings consequences.
