Fresh Carlos Baleba Injury Deepens Manchester United’s Spiral Further Into Despair After Roma Setback

United fall behind early

Manchester United entered Tuesday’s Champions League match against Roma seeking to end a nine-game winless run. By the 18th minute, the team was 2–0 down at Old Trafford. Diogo Dalot’s positioning and a penalty conceded by Ayden Heaven helped Roma establish its lead before Michael Carrick’s side had settled into the game.

Baleba leaves in pain

In the second half, Baleba drove forward before stopping in visible pain and clutching his hamstring. Medical staff treated him on the pitch, and he appeared emotional before leaving the match.

The summer signing was replaced by Youri Tielemans in the 51st minute. Carrick is expected to give an update after the final whistle. Baleba had previously missed the start of the season with an ankle injury and has made six appearances for United since joining from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Midfield options are limited

United have been without several players during their poor run. Benjamin Šeško, Luke Shaw, Patrick Dorgu and Manuel Ugarte remain out with long-term issues, while Kobbie Mainoo has only recently returned.

Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martínez have also spent time out. With the injury problems and what the report describes as an underwhelming summer transfer window, Carrick has lacked depth during a key run of games; United have not won any of them. If Baleba is sidelined for an extended period, the available midfield group would be Tielemans, Mainoo, Andrey Santos and Mason Mount.

International break offers time

Baleba’s injury comes just before the November international break, giving the 22-year-old an additional two weeks to recover. The extent of the injury is not yet known. It also remains uncertain whether Carrick will still be in charge when Baleba returns to action.
