Dallas Mavericks Ownership Swap: Does Another Change Alter Anything for Fans?

A change within the family
Adelson sold her 69% stake to Sivian and Patrick Dumont in 2023, while Mark Cuban retained about 27%. According to MacMahon, she has now sold her share to her daughter and son-in-law.
Dumont has held the Mavericks’ controlling governor role since the original sale. A clause also allows him to buy another 20% from Cuban at the original valuation.
Arena plans and team leadership
Speaking to ESPN, Dumont said the family is focused on long-term investment in Dallas and hopes to build what he called the NBA’s best arena. He described it as a new 40-year home for the Mavericks and a major city investment.
Dumont has handed basketball responsibilities to team leaders, including president Masai Ujiri, general manager Mike Schmitz and head coach Dusty May. The account says he approved the Luka Doncic trade after former general manager Nico Harrison persuaded him, and that he later made changes to address the fallout.
What fans may take from it
The ownership shift is not expected to change the team’s day-to-day direction, since Dumont remains in charge. Still, some fans may welcome Adelson no longer being associated with the franchise, given their objections to her political donations and her defense of Israel.
Cuban has publicly expressed regret about selling his stake and about the buyer. Talk last season of a possible effort by Cuban and investors to regain control was quickly dismissed.
