Exclusive: Court Docs Reveal Chilling Details of Anonymous Celeb’s Suicide Attempts and Psychological Deterioration Amid Misconduct Claims

A serious psychiatric history
The judgment also described recurrent depression, longstanding suicidal thoughts and previous suicidal behavior before the celebrity was contacted about the allegations. Justice Nicklin found that communications from ITN and the Guardian precipitated a severe decline in his mental health.
Earlier approach and reporting
The Guardian had approached the celebrity about alleged inappropriate conduct in May 2022, four years before the 2026 letters. He denied those claims, and no article was published at the time.
ITN and the Guardian began investigating separately before agreeing to work together in April 2023. Their journalists spoke with more than 100 people, including more than 30 sources described as having firsthand accounts, and reviewed messages, emails and other documents. Interviewees included alleged victims, friends, colleagues, former partners and relatives.
Risks and treatment after discharge
The judge noted evidence of recent preparatory conduct and efforts to stop people in the celebrity’s protective circle from monitoring his movements or spending. The judgment said his suicide risk rose after he left hospital; he did not accept the full NHS community mental-health support package and continued with a private psychiatrist.
He later declined crisis planning and voluntary admission. Dr. Qurashi identified several periods of heightened risk, including the days before the court decision, notification of the ruling, and any imminent or actual publication. The judgment said time alone would not establish when publication became clinically safe. The celebrity was compulsorily admitted under the Mental Health Act on Oct. 22, shortly before trial.
