Michael Connelly clarified why the Harry Bosch series is releasing on MGM+ after the Prime Video spinoff

Why MGM+ Will Stream It

Asked on Threads why Bosch: Start of Watch was headed to MGM+, Connelly replied, “That’s the studio that wanted the show. Others passed.” The franchise has appeared outside Prime Video before: Bosch: Legacy streamed on the now-defunct Amazon Freevee. MGM+ is now a companion streaming service to Prime Video after Amazon acquired MGM in 2021, keeping the prequel within the same corporate family.

A Younger Harry Bosch

This is the first Bosch television series not to adapt Connelly’s existing work. Welliver’s son Eamonn previously played a younger Bosch in Bosch: Legacy flashbacks, while his son Quinn portrayed Bosch as an adolescent in Bosch.

Cast And Production Team

Omari Hardwick plays Bosch’s LAPD training officer, Eli Bridges. Ariana Guerra portrays fellow officer Rosa, who is also Bosch’s romantic interest, and J.D. Pardo plays Cory, Bosch’s criminal foster brother.

Tom Bernardo and Brian Anthony created the prequel and serve as executive producers. Bernardo is also the showrunner. Connelly has confirmed that Titus Welliver will not return as Bosch in present-day flash-forwards.

Release Schedule And Other Projects

The first two episodes of Bosch: Start of Watch are scheduled for Sunday, January 10, on MGM+. New episodes will arrive weekly through February 21. It remains unclear whether the episodes will later be available on Prime Video or stay exclusively on MGM+.

Spider-Noir premiered its full season on MGM+ earlier this year before arriving on Prime Video two days later. Other MGM+ original series named in the report include Godfather of Harlem, From, The Institute, Robin Hood, The Westies and American Hostage. Ballard is returning for a second season, and Connelly’s latest Harry Bosch book, The Hollow, was released earlier this year.
