Ukraine-Russia war: Kyiv says emergency alert app hacked by enemy influence

False nuclear alerts reported

Kyiv said its air raid app sent nuclear alerts after being hacked by what it called “enemy influence.” The Ukrainian government said there was no radiation threat and urged residents to remain calm. Russia also reported cyberattacks on emergency warning systems. Its emergencies ministry said the public alert system was working normally, with warnings delivered through sirens, loudspeakers, text messages, television and radio.

The ministry said the mobile app was being restored by experts and described the situation as under control. It said the app’s hacking could not affect the wider public alert system.

Attacks continue across the front

Ukraine said it struck a Russian missile manufacturing plant and oil production facilities on Sunday. Fighting continued elsewhere along the front line as a six-day local ceasefire in Oleshky reached its final day.

Russia’s defence ministry said its forces had shot down 235 Ukrainian drones over Russian regions overnight. Ukraine’s air force said it had downed 371 of 433 Russian long-range drones launched since Saturday evening.

Oleshky evacuation concludes

The ceasefire in Russian-occupied Oleshky enabled hundreds of residents to cross into Ukrainian-controlled territory and reunite with family. The humanitarian operation ended when the six-day truce expired. Pope Leo XIV said he hoped cooperation over the ceasefire would encourage wider dialogue between Moscow and Kyiv. Trilateral talks involving Russia, Ukraine and the United States are expected later this month.

Peace prospects remain uncertain

Kremlin officials said Vladimir Putin was willing to speak by phone with Volodymyr Zelensky, while opposing the involvement of European leaders who support Ukraine. A broader agreement remains uncertain. Putin continues to demand that Ukraine give up all of Donetsk, as well as additional territory in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, including areas Russian forces have not captured but Moscow claims to have annexed.
