Deadspin: Kochetkov and Hurricanes aim to extend streaks at Predators

Kochetkov leads Carolina surge

The Hurricanes arrive after a 7-0 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. Kochetkov stopped 26 shots for his second shutout of the season and extended his season-opening winning streak to 10 games.

He has a 1.49 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage. Named the NHL’s Third Star of the Month for October, Kochetkov went 9-0-0 that month with a 1.66 goals-against average and .919 save percentage.

Hurricanes spread the scoring

Logan Stankoven recorded a goal and two assists against Winnipeg, while Sebastian Aho had a goal and an assist. Sean Walker scored twice, and Seth Jarvis, Nikolaj Ehlers and Shayne Gostisbehere each added two assists.

Stankoven leads Carolina with 10 goals. Aho tops the team with 21 points, including nine goals and 12 assists. Ehlers and Jackson Blake each have a six-game point streak, collecting nine and eight points, respectively, during that span. Walker said the team feels comfortable with Kochetkov in goal, praising his puck handling and ability to start breakouts. He added that the goalie is playing at an “awesome level.”

Nashville looks to build momentum

The Predators rallied past the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-4 in a shootout on Saturday, after going 0-1-1 in their prior two games. Steven Stamkos tied the score with a third-period power-play goal, then scored the only goal in a four-round shootout.

The goal against his former team was Stamkos’ first against Tampa Bay and former teammate Andrei Vasilevskiy. Stamkos said Nashville had struggled to earn extra points in overtime and shootouts, adding that the win was important for the group.

Reid Schaefer scored after being scratched for the previous four games. Filip Forsberg and Nick Perbix each had two assists. Stamkos has a team-high eight goals; Forsberg leads Nashville with 17 points, including five goals and 12 assists.

Predators add Shane Wright

Nashville acquired forward Shane Wright from the Seattle Kraken on Sunday in exchange for Matthew Wood. General manager Chris MacFarland said Wright would bring a two-way game and add pace to the lineup.

MacFarland said the team expects Wright to keep developing and looks forward to working with him. The trade came ahead of Nashville’s home game against Carolina on Tuesday night.
