Ravens Initiated Trade Talks for a QB as Lamar Jackson Is Possibly Out for the Season

Three quarterbacks hurt in loss
Baltimore lost three quarterbacks to injuries during Sunday’s 36-10 defeat to Buffalo, its third consecutive loss. Jackson injured his thumb on his first dropback after being hit by pass rusher Greg Rousseau.
Jackson is headed to Injured Reserve. Minter said after the game that the injury could be season-ending, while the article also notes that even a four-week absence could effectively end Jackson’s season.
Huntley left with a toe injury that could keep him from starting Thursday or playing at all. Fagnano, an undrafted rookie who entered as an emergency quarterback, received ankle and foot treatment in the second half; his Week 9 status is uncertain.
Baltimore seeks quick help
The Ravens began contacting other teams on Sunday as they tried to find a quarterback in time for Thursday’s game against Jacksonville. Signing a free agent and bringing him in for a workout and physical on short notice would be difficult, making a trade an appealing route.
Minter said Baltimore would keep working to move forward, whoever plays. He added that the team has confidence in Fagnano if he is needed.
Bagent tops trade targets
The report identifies Bears backup Tyson Bagent as Baltimore’s leading pursuit, citing multiple high-ranking NFL personnel executives. The Ravens have contacted Chicago, but league sources said over the summer that the Bears had rejected approaches for Bagent, whom they see as a useful backup in coach Ben Johnson’s system.
One NFL general manager said Chicago had no need to trade Bagent and wondered how strongly the team might press Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta. The Bears extended Bagent, who earns $4 million this season and $4 million next season.
Bagent, 26, joined Chicago as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He appeared in three games this season while Caleb Williams was out, completing 66% of his passes for 6.4 yards per attempt and a 63.9 rating. His familiarity with the offense and running ability could help Baltimore, though the report says he is not a deep passer. Chicago’s Monday night game in Seattle could complicate a deal.
Ehlinger another possibility
Denver’s Sam Ehlinger is named as another possible option. He was inactive for the Broncos’ game on Sunday. The report says Denver’s offense is similar to Baltimore’s and notes that Broncos coach Sean Payton was a primary mentor to Ravens offensive coordinator Declan Doyle. The Bears also have veteran Case Keenum among their three quarterbacks.
