Eastwood, Hanks WWII Thriller Officially Revives a Classic Movie Tradition as It Climbs Charts Again

A World War II story

Lucky Strike is based on true events and centers on an injured American soldier caught behind enemy lines during the Battle of the Bulge. Scott Eastwood and Colin Hanks star in the historical action drama.

The casting connects the actors to their fathers, Clint Eastwood and Tom Hanks, both of whom are described as Oscar winners. The film puts the younger performers at the center of a story shaped by their families’ screen legacies.

From theaters to streaming

The movie did not receive a wide theatrical release and earned under $2 million in select U.S. theaters. Rotten Tomatoes scores were 60% from critics and 69% from moviegoers.

It became available on video-on-demand platforms, including Prime Video and Apple TV, in August. Since then, it has gained word-of-mouth attention and has been moving up the charts on Paramount+ and Prime Video.

The filmmakers behind it

Rod Lurie directed Lucky Strike and co-wrote its screenplay with Marc Frydman. Lurie had previously directed Eastwood in the 2019 military drama The Outpost. Lurie also has two feature films in development, Fated and West Pointer. Plot details for those projects were not provided.
