Netflix layoffs: VP Anna Mallett among 2-3 percent of staff affected in production cuts

London office cuts emerge

Netflix’s mid-October layoffs affected around 1,000 employees, equal to 6 percent of the company’s workforce. The job cuts were its largest since 2022, and the impact on the U.K. operation is now becoming clearer.

Anna Mallett was among those affected at Netflix’s London office. The staff reduction there was understood to involve about 2 percent to 3 percent of employees, and several hundred people work at the office. Departures also included employees in communications and other roles.

Mallett’s Netflix work

Netflix hired Mallett in November 2020. She served as vice president of physical production for the U.K. and local-language content production across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Her work covered television series and films in the U.K. and EMEA, including Baby Reindeer, Adolescence and later seasons of Spanish series Money Heist.

Earlier leadership roles

Before joining Netflix, Mallett was chief executive of ITN. Her earlier positions included group chief operating officer and managing director of production at BBC Studios.

Company strategy and execution

Netflix co-CEO Sarandos said the company’s business and growth model were working and did not require a fundamental strategy shift. He said the company needed better execution in the U.S., while noting that international titles can depend on major hits that travel worldwide.
