2026 Elections: Trump to Speak at Reflecting Pool as Campaign Trail Battles Intensify

Michigan Senate Race Turns Contentious

Haley Stevens endorsed Republican Mike Rogers on Sunday, despite previously backing Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, who defeated her in the primary. Leading Democrats criticized her decision, while President Trump praised it.

In her first interview after the endorsement, Stevens told CNN’s Anderson Cooper she felt a “weight off my shoulders.” She said she still wants Democrats to win the Senate, but did not directly explain what changed her mind. Stevens said an advertisement had been “very painful” and argued that some Democrats were being told they did not belong in the party or campaign.

Trump Plans Reflecting Pool Event

Trump is scheduled to hold an event Monday afternoon at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C., the day before Election Day. He said the pool’s renovation was finished and that it now worked well after years of leaking.

Peeling paint from the blue coating was later seen in the water. Trump claimed on Truth Social, without evidence, that the pool had been vandalized. Five people were arrested for vandalism, but the Justice Department later said in a court filing that the contractor’s “botched installation” was responsible.

Senate Races Draw Trump’s Attention

Trump held campaign rallies Sunday in Iowa and Kansas, where Senate races have become unexpectedly tight. He said the Kansas stop was his 30th rally and that he came to help Republican Sen. Roger Marshall win against Democrat Adam Hamilton.

House Control Remains Uncertain

CBS News identified 47 House districts likely to determine which party controls the chamber. Its Battleground Tracker model estimated on Oct. 25 that Democrats were positioned to win 229 seats.

The model’s range ran from 215 Democratic seats, which would leave Republicans with a narrow majority, to 237. Eight of the identified seats are held by Republicans, in Alaska, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina and Texas.
