After Stroke, Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy Reportedly Responding Well to Treatment

Hospitalization and treatment

Murphy experienced numbness in his arm while attending his son’s hockey game Saturday afternoon, Herwitt said. He was taken to a local hospital, where doctors determined he had experienced a stroke.

Murphy’s role in politics

Murphy, 53, has been a prominent figure in the Democratic Party and a frequent campaign surrogate for candidates during the midterm cycle. He is also viewed as a possible 2028 presidential contender.

He has established himself as a foreign policy leader and advocate for strong oversight of the executive branch. After returning from a multistop Middle East tour, Murphy warned that President Trump would sharply escalate the war on Iran after the midterm election.

Other lawmakers’ health crises

In 2022, three prominent Democrats were hospitalized for strokes: Sen. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico, Chris Van Hollen of Maryland and then-Senate candidate John Fetterman.
