Deadspin: Can the Canadiens Take Their Winning Streak Into a Home Matchup With Slumping Jets?

Montreal Builds Momentum

Josh Anderson had two goals and an assist in Montreal’s 5-4 win over Pittsburgh on Saturday. His second goal came after Lane Hutson’s shot deflected off Anderson and then Penguins defenseman Kris Letang before going in.

Chris Kreider added a goal and an assist as the Canadiens extended their point streak to seven games, with a 6-0-1 record over that span. Hutson scored in Montreal’s 2-1 win over Winnipeg at the NHL Heritage Classic on Oct. 25 and had two assists against Pittsburgh. He leads the team with 10 assists and 13 points.

Fowler’s Strong Run

Jacob Fowler made 25 saves against Pittsburgh and became the third Montreal rookie goalie to put together a seven-game winning streak, joining Carey Price in 2007-08 and Jakub Dobes in 2025-26. During his streak, Fowler has recorded two shutouts, a 1.67 goals-against average and a .941 save percentage.

Fowler also stopped 33 shots in Montreal’s October victory over Winnipeg. Kreider praised the goalie’s performance and the team’s defensive blocks, saying Fowler came through during Carolina’s pushes.

Winnipeg Seeks A Reset

The Jets fell to 0-7-2 since Oct. 15 after losing 7-0 to Carolina on Sunday. Stuart Skinner allowed five goals in his second consecutive start and was pulled at 9:09 of the second period.

Coach Scott Arniel called the loss frustrating and embarrassing, faulting mistakes that left the goalies exposed. He said Winnipeg needed to defend, compete and execute better. The Jets now turn to Tuesday’s game in Montreal as they look to reset.
