Apple’s Ultra smart home robot might wait until 2028 as software lags

Software delays the launch

The Information reports that Apple has postponed its rumored home robot. The earliest possible release is next year, while 2028 is also being considered. The hardware has reportedly been finished for around two years, but the software team believes the product is not ready. The report says the team has sought to reduce planned features and concentrate on FaceTime and household tasks, including turning on lights.

Name and price remain uncertain

The device is reportedly known inside Apple as J595. Former Apple employees cited by The Information think it could be marketed as the “HomeView Ultra,” following the HomeView smart display launched last month.

The robot could cost about $1,000, or more. The Information says increases in RAM and other component costs could push its price higher than the HomeView.

A swiveling tabletop display

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said in 2024 that the robot might sit on a table, with a design reminiscent of Pixar’s famous lamp. The Information describes a 9-inch screen mounted on a robotic arm that can swivel.

Cameras and sensors could help the device follow a person during a FaceTime call. The reported features and launch schedule have not been confirmed by Apple.
