32 Years Later, the Original Power Rangers Return to Start a Mighty Morphin Era

A reunion in March 2027
BOOM! Studios plans to launch Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1 in March 2027. The series brings back the original team in its classic suits, for an adventure set ten years after the group split up.
Jason, Zack, Trini, Kimberly, and Billy have each moved on to ordinary adult lives. They must decide whether to reunite, but Rita Rabiosa’s threat to the world leaves little time for deliberation.
A new creative team
Marguerite Bennett is writing the series, with art by Andrew Lee Griffith and Phillip Sevy. Bennett’s credits include DC Comics Bombshells, Angela: Queen of Hel, and Witchblade; Griffith worked on The Transformers, while Sevy illustrated Astonishing X-Men Infinity Comic.
The story is not directly connected to Power Rangers Unlimited. It also differs from the original television series, where several heroes left for a World Peace Summit.
The original team’s legacy
The franchise has introduced more than twenty teams, alongside replacement Rangers, sixth Rangers, temporary transformations, and returning veterans. There is no single official tally of every person to have held Ranger powers, especially when comics, alternate universes, and crossover specials are counted.
Ranger status can be passed on or shared, as long as a person has access to a power source and accepts the duties involved. Across the franchise’s many lineups, the original six—Jason, Kimberly, Zack, Trini, Billy, and Tommy—remain its defining team.
Room for more stories
The original heroes could appear in stories that continue their lives after the split or revisit their beginnings. The article also points to possibilities such as parallel timelines, reboots, and new adaptations.
Power Rangers teams have gained their abilities in different ways. Some draw on artifacts such as Dino Thunder’s Dino Gems or Dino Charge’s Energems; others receive training and equipment from organizations including Space Patrol Delta and Lightspeed Rescue.
