Affinity’s all-in-one iPad design app launches today, free for individuals

One app for creative work

Affinity’s iPad app combines sketch, vector, photo and layout editing in a single application. It replaces the separate Affinity Photo, Affinity Publisher and Affinity Designer apps. Canva says the app was built for iPad’s touch interface and Apple Pencil. Duncan Clark, Canva’s CEO of Pro Design, said the company was responding to users’ requests for an iPad version after unifying Affinity on desktop.

From sketches to layouts

The app’s sketch tools support Apple Pencil pressure and tilt, with a brush library users can adjust. Sketches remain editable in the project, and hand-drawn forms can be converted into vector shapes.

Photo tools include RAW adjustments, selections, retouching and composites. Layout features support multi-page documents, with text and images flowing across pages and projects exportable as print-ready files.

Pencil and AI features

Canva says the app supports Apple Pencil Pro features including pressure, tilt, barrel roll, squeeze and hover. Its listed AI tools include generative expand, resolution upscaling and adding attributes such as motion blur.

A Decompose Layer feature can separate a flat image into editable layers, according to the company. Affinity’s desktop app has recorded more than seven million sign-ups since its launch a year ago.
