Kentucky emerges as potential Arch Manning transfer destination after Todd McShay pitches fresh start

Expectations meet a rocky stretch
Manning once appeared set to take over as Texas’ starting quarterback, lead the Longhorns to major honors and eventually become the No. 1 NFL draft pick. Those projections were high expectations for a young player, amplified by his family name and status as a highly rated prospect.
Instead, Texas missed the playoff last season, and this year it has lost twice to unranked teams. Manning struggled in both defeats, leaving his future less certain and making an NFL declaration this year seem less likely.
McShay names Kentucky as option
Transfer destinations for Manning have begun circulating. On a conversation with Ryen Russillo this week, Todd McShay suggested Kentucky, where Will Stein became head coach this past offseason after serving as Oregon’s offensive coordinator.
McShay said the fit between Manning and Texas coach Steve Sarkisian has not produced the results expected. He also said Sarkisian can create favorable matchups, while questioning whether he is the best quarterback developer, and maintained that Manning could become a good professional.
Stein’s quarterback track record
McShay pointed to Stein’s work with Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel, both of whom went on to be drafted. He also cited Dante Moore’s development, arguing that Stein could help Manning regain consideration as a potential No. 1 pick.
McShay said he had heard other possible destinations discussed, including Georgia and Ole Miss, but said he had not heard Kentucky raised. His recommendation was for Manning to explore joining Stein.
Texas season still matters
A transfer remains speculative, and Texas is still in the playoff race despite its two losses. Manning could lead a strong run that changes perceptions and makes him a hero in Austin.
A move to Kentucky could reduce Manning’s championship prospects, but it may appeal if his priority is rebuilding his draft standing. What happens next depends in part on how the rest of the season unfolds.
