2026 NYC Marathon: Runners Take Streets as Huge Crowds Cheer Across Five Boroughs
A route across New York
The marathon starts on Staten Island, then crosses the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge into Brooklyn. Runners continue through Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx before returning to Manhattan. The finish line is in Central Park. Many streets and bridges are closed to traffic during race day.
Defending champions return
Kenyan runners Hellen Obiri and Benson Kipruto are competing as defending champions. Obiri won the women's open division in 2025, while Kipruto took the men's title. Sweden's Andreas Almgren, the World Half Marathon champion, is making his full marathon debut. American Conner Mantz is also racing; he holds the U.S. marathon record after running the Chicago Marathon in 2 hours, 4 minutes and 43 seconds last year.
