After Florida State Firing, How Much Does Mike Norvell Get? Contract Buyout Details

Florida State Ends Norvell Era
The Seminoles dismissed Norvell on Sunday, following their 36-24 defeat against Clemson. He leaves with a 41-39 overall record, including 23-30 in ACC games over six-plus seasons. Florida State is now beginning a national search for a new head coach. The team’s remaining schedule includes a Nov. 7 road game at Boston College and a Nov. 27 regular-season finale against rival Florida in Tallahassee.
Contract Terms and Changes
Before the 2024 season, Norvell signed an eight-year extension valued at more than $84 million, running through 2031. The agreement averaged roughly $10 million per year and included a scheduled $150,000 salary increase each season. After the 2024 season, Norvell agreed to a restructured arrangement that directed $4.5 million toward institutional revenue-sharing initiatives.
Buyout Depends on Timing
Because Florida State fired Norvell during the season, he is set to be owed $50.3 million under the buyout terms. Had the school waited until after the 2026 season to fire him, the buyout would have fallen to roughly $45.6 million.
