$180,000 Salary: Alabama High School Head Football Coach Position Offers Insane Starting Pay

A high-paying coaching opening

Dothan City has posted an opening for its head football coach. The listed salary ranges from $150,000 to $180,000, depending on experience, and the position includes significant supplements to hire offensive and defensive coordinators.

The application says the school wants an accomplished coach to build and sustain a state championship-caliber program. It also calls for leadership, staff development and year-round preparation, alongside support for players’ academic achievement, character, discipline and well-being.

Wolves seek a new leader

Jed Kennedy stepped down in late September, when Dothan City was 2-3 overall and 1-2 in Class 6A, Region 2. He finished his time leading the Wolves with a 29-19 record and two playoff appearances; his career record at the time of his resignation was 114-47.

The Wolves ended the regular season with a 44-38 victory over Crestview, finishing 3-7. That result snapped a six-game losing streak.

Hiring plans and returning players

Dothan City is seeking candidates with a record of consistent winning and relevant experience. The successful applicant will oversee year-round strength and conditioning, skill development and offseason preparation.

The school hopes the new coach will begin work in late February 2027. Quarterback Sedrick Tyson is set to return after throwing for 432 yards and four touchdowns; leading rusher Sirlathian Meadows, who recorded more than 1,200 yards and 10 touchdowns, graduates. Jayden Ruffin returns as the top rusher, with 153 yards.
