9 McDonald’s Breakfast Upgrades That Give Familiar Sandwiches a New Twist

Choose an Egg Style

McDonald’s uses several egg preparations across its breakfast menu. The Egg McMuffin has a round egg cracked into a ring, while the folded eggs on Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuits are prepared by suppliers and grilled with butter at the restaurant. Scrambled eggs in the sausage burrito are also cooked by suppliers, along with sausage and vegetables.

Customers can ask to replace the folded egg on some sandwiches with a round one, though reports differ on whether the change is available in the app or must be requested in person. Some customers say scrambled eggs provide a larger portion than either a round or folded egg.

Add Another Egg

Customers who want more egg can request an extra one on a sandwich. The option has been suggested for the Egg McMuffin and the Steak, Egg and Cheese Bagel.

A February 2026 McDonald’s Facebook post said customers could add a round egg for $1.50. The extra egg appeared as an option in the McDonald’s app.

Mix Up The Meats

Sandwich ingredients can be combined beyond the listed menu versions. Customers have suggested replacing Canadian bacon on a McMuffin with steak, or adding regular bacon alongside the Canadian bacon.

For a more meat-filled sandwich, customers can combine sausage, ham, and bacon on a McMuffin. Similar combinations can be made on biscuit and bagel sandwiches, though steak availability may depend on location.

Add A Hash Brown

Instead of eating a hash brown on the side, customers can place it inside a breakfast sandwich. Its crisp texture adds a salty crunch alongside the egg, cheese, and meat. Customers have described adding one to a Sausage McMuffin or a McGriddle.
