Time Travel, Miniature Puzzles and Robot Ruins: 10 Great Adventure Video Games You Haven’t Played

Changing History Through Time

In Shadow of Memories, Eike receives a strange device after being stabbed to death. It lets him travel through time in a fictional German town and try to prevent his murder.

Eike must move between historical eras and change events involving the townspeople and his ancestors. Though the game appeared on the best-selling video game console of all time, other releases overshadowed its connected choices and time-spanning story.

Puzzles With Toad

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker casts Toad as a searcher for stolen artifacts hidden in miniature 3D puzzles. He carries a backpack but cannot jump, so players must guide him through each obstacle on foot.

The game’s rotating puzzle worlds and spatial mechanics make its challenges creative and stimulating. It is relatively popular compared with the other games featured here, but remains underplayed as a Nintendo title.

Two Sci-Fi Point-And-Clicks

Gemini Rue follows Azriel, a former assassin searching for his missing brother in a rainy science-fiction world. A second story follows an amnesiac escaping a high-tech facility before his mind is erased; the paths eventually collide.

Its moody pixel art supports a narrative described as sci-fi noir, but the game flew under the radar. Primordia, another point-and-click adventure, follows Horatio, a lonely robot, and his floating sidekick as they search for a stolen power core.

Their journey crosses a desert wreck, a mechanical city and other places in a world without humans. Robots worship humanity as ancient deities, while dialogue presents moral choices and multiple endings shaped by philosophical alignment.
