Welcome to Derry Surprise Halloween Episode Drops on HBO Max
An unexpected Halloween release
HBO surprised viewers with a special episode of It: Welcome to Derry on Halloween. The series had debuted one year earlier, and the network had renewed it for a second season.
Two short clips, posted to YouTube and TikTok, promoted the release. The first offered a brief tease, while the second provided more information.
A story set far back
The promotional videos suggest the series may reach into the distant past, before the founding of the United States. The episode’s events involve three children who enter the Western Wood without adults.
There, they meet a terrifying, hostile spirit. They also encounter something cosmic and beautiful, offering a contrast to Pennywise’s horror and violence.
More Derry background
Horror viewers are also encouraged to watch A Story of Derry. The feature is recommended both as a work in its own right and for the added history it provides.
That additional background expands the lore surrounding Pennywise. The special episode and A Story of Derry both add to the series’ wider world.
