4K Collections Give Iconic Universal Monsters a Much-Needed Upgrade This Halloween Season
Two collections arrive in 4K
Universal Home Entertainment released the Frankenstein and The Wolf Man Complete Legacy Collections in 4K this Halloween season. The sets bring together films from each monster’s series, following earlier DVD and Blu-ray editions.
The Wolf Man collection was released last month and contains seven films. The titles are The Wolf Man (1941), Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, House of Frankenstein, House of Dracula, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, Werewolf of London and She-Wolf of London.
Frankenstein’s eight-film set
The Frankenstein Complete Legacy Collection includes eight films, with some titles also appearing in the Wolf Man set. Its lineup includes Frankenstein (1931) and The Bride of Frankenstein (1935), along with Son of Frankenstein and The Ghost of Frankenstein. The collection also features House of Frankenstein, House of Dracula, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein and Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man.
Restoration brings sets forward
The restored films look strong in 4K, with careful attention given to their picture quality. Extensive special features are available for three titles: Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein and The Wolf Man.
The upgrade also makes the films’ practical sets more visible. Their detailed backgrounds can be harder to appreciate on VHS, DVD, streaming or Blu-ray, while the 4K versions reveal more of their design and craftsmanship.
