Northampton Saints come from behind to beat Gloucester 28-14, ending visitors’ strong form

Gloucester strike first

Gloucester began with the stronger attack, and tries by Max Llewellyn and Will Joseph gave them a 14-point advantage. Northampton struggled to find momentum while missing injured fly-half Fin Smith.

Tom Pearson’s try provided a route back into the contest. Saints added another before the interval when a driving line-out broke apart and Langdon crossed.

Saints take control

Northampton continued to have difficulty creating chances after the restart. A promising attack was stopped when Joseph intercepted a pass. With Gloucester defending narrowly, the fly-half sent a well-judged looping pass to Hendy, who scored in the corner. That try put Saints in front.

Late score and injury concern

Gloucester pushed for a response but could not get through Northampton’s defence. Hutchinson scored late for Saints, making the result safe and completing their comeback. Mitchell had already left the field during the first half with an unknown injury. His absence was another setback for Northampton ahead of England’s Nations Championship campaign.
