deadspin: anton lundell records first hat trick as panthers rout jets again, extending Winnipeg’s skid to eight

Lundell delivers career milestone
Lundell entered the game with one goal this season. He scored in the second period, then added a rebound goal with 6:27 left in the third and an empty-net goal with 1:39 remaining.
The final goal completed his first hat trick in 373 regular-season appearances. Lundell’s late scoring helped Florida pull away after Winnipeg had narrowed the margin to one.
Florida builds early advantage
Sam Reinhart opened the scoring on a power play with 1:45 remaining in the first period. Carter Verhaeghe set him up, and Reinhart scored from beside the net.
Lundell made it 2-0 early in the second, recovering the puck after his first attempt was blocked and scoring from the left circle. Seth Jones contributed a goal and two assists, and has recorded 17 points, including 16 assists, over his past nine games.
Jets rally but fall short
Morgan Barron brought Winnipeg within 3-2 with 11:14 remaining in the third, scoring his first goal of the season. Lundell’s two late goals then secured the Panthers’ win.
Goalies and team records
Florida goalie Akira Schmid stopped 22 shots for his third consecutive win as a starter. Winnipeg’s Nico Daws, acquired last week from New Jersey, made his first start with the Jets and stopped 33 of 37 shots.
The Panthers have won three straight and six of their past eight games. They went 5-for-10 on the power play across the two games against Winnipeg; the Jets’ eight-game skid is approaching the franchise record of 10, set three times—in 2000, 1994 and 1980.
