PUBG Action Series in Works at Netflix, With Donald Glover Set to Star and Direct

Glover’s PUBG project
Donald Glover is developing a television-series adaptation of PUBG, the video-game franchise from Krafton. He is set to star, direct, write and executive-produce the project. Stephen Glover, Donald’s brother, will also write and executive-produce. Michael Schaefer, Fam Udeorji, Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee are among the other executive producers.
The game behind the series
The franchise began in 2017 with PUBG: Battlegrounds. Its name developed from the original PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The game is a battle royale in which players compete on a map to gather resources and be the last one standing. Its official-site motto is “Land, loot, survive!” and the franchise holds seven Guinness World Records, including one for reaching two million concurrent players on Steam.
Glover’s television career
Glover first became widely known for playing Troy Barnes on NBC’s Community. He later created, starred in and executive-produced FX’s Atlanta. His other television work includes Girls, The Studio and Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which he co-created with Francesca Sloane. The show was renewed for a second season in 2024, but later reports said its return was delayed and raised doubts about whether Glover would reprise his role.
Netflix adaptations
The PUBG project does not yet have a series order. If Netflix orders it, it would join the streamer’s video-game adaptations, including a live-action Assassin’s Creed series greenlit in 2025. The project brings Glover’s work across acting, writing, directing and producing to a franchise built around competitive survival gameplay.
