Pictured hiding in Ukraine metro station amid Russian raid threat, Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

A night sheltering in Kyiv

Coster-Waldau visited Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, and spent Wednesday night inside a metro station during a Russian air raid threat. Residents were also sheltering there amid the risk of a possible missile and drone strike.

Images show the actor lying on a cot in a blue UNDP hoodie, khaki cargo pants and black sneakers. He was also photographed looking tense among other passengers, and later walking near makeshift tents with a green backpack and a black bag of supplies.

His message from the metro

In an Instagram Stories post, Coster-Waldau wrote, “Spent the night in the Kyiv Metro. Pretty rough night.” He added that he could leave after one night, while thousands of Ukrainians rely on shelter to stay safe during shelling.

He called for continued assistance to civilians and respect for shared rules. He also posted a snapshot of Kyiv’s air raid alerts, which were at red level for three straight days, from Oct. 27 to Oct. 29.

Appeal for international support

In Reuters video, Coster-Waldau said he had come to Ukraine to raise awareness and help ensure people did not forget a country in need. He said Ukrainians were doing well but needed help from the international community, particularly as winter neared. The actor appeared in good spirits despite the circumstances, smiling as he tried to get comfortable on his cot.
