At Trump’s South Carolina rally, anti-Trump troll tells Fox he came to see a ‘cult’ in person

A striking exchange at the rally

Tomlinson asked a man named Tom why he had come to the event. Tom said he had been too young to go to South America during the Jonestown Massacre in the late 1970s, and described the rally as his closest chance to see what he called a “cult.” Tomlinson appeared to realize he had interviewed a Trump critic and awkwardly changed the subject. The clip later spread widely online.

South Carolina Senate contest

Trump was in South Carolina on Thursday, his second visit to the state this month, to campaign for Sen. Darline Graham, identified as the sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham. Graham faces Democrat Annie Andrews in a race described as a surprisingly tough challenge for a key Senate seat. Republican Representative Nancy Mace called the situation “a mess” and “a f—ing train wreck” on Wednesday. South Carolina has not elected a Democrat to the Senate in nearly three decades, while Andrews, a mother and pediatrician, is asking voters to “try something new for once.”

Campaign activity and Kansas plans

With midterm elections set for Tuesday, Trump and other Republican leaders have campaigned across battleground states, including Texas, Ohio, Iowa and Alaska. Trump was scheduled to attend a Kansas rally on Saturday but canceled that appearance. He is instead set to take part in several virtual rallies; whether he will reschedule the Kansas visit was unclear.
