Carrie Ann and Val Filmed Speaking During DWTS Commercial Break: Here’s What Happened
A brief exchange on camera
Chmerkovskiy and Inaba spoke during a commercial break on the show. Johnson, an audience member and beauty and entertainment reporter, recorded the interaction. Their conversation cannot be heard in the video. Lip-reading appears to show Chmerkovskiy saying, “I’m so sorry,” to Inaba, who accepts his apology before they exchange kind words.
Why Val was suspended
Chmerkovskiy was suspended from Dancing With the Stars after making an “Oscar Slap” comment. The remark followed Inaba’s criticism of his wife Jenna Johnson for including a lift in her routine.
Before the show, Inaba said she and Jenna had resolved their disagreement after the Super Bowl show. She wrote on Instagram that they hugged and worked through the moment.
Inaba’s account of the dispute
Inaba described Jenna as professional and said she later learned that Jenna had been deeply hurt. Her post addressed the exchange between the two women, while the filmed commercial-break moment showed Inaba speaking with Chmerkovskiy. The meeting was their first face-to-face encounter since his suspension, according to the report.
