After Bolsonaro’s election defeat, U.S. issuing visas to Brazil senator and family

Visa plans and departure
His brother, Eduardo Bolsonaro, lives in Texas and had publicly urged him to leave Brazil if he lost. Flávio Bolsonaro has also highlighted his ties to former President Donald Trump and visited the White House in May.
Passport deadline remains uncertain
The senator’s departure coincided with a noon Tuesday deadline to surrender his regular and diplomatic passports. It was not known whether he had complied with the order. He received the order on Monday outside the home of his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro. Jair Bolsonaro is serving a 27-year sentence under house arrest for attempting a coup after losing the 2022 election to Lula.

Lula, who turned 81 on Tuesday, won more than 64 million votes, while Bolsonaro received fewer than 60 million. The difference was nearly 4%; after his own 2022 election defeat, Jair Bolsonaro left for Florida and returned three months later.
