Exclusive: Equinox chairman Harvey Spevak and former Fox 5 anchor Bianca Peters are engaged

A proposal in El Paso

Spevak took Peters to El Paso last weekend, where members of her extended family and her only remaining grandparent live. At Amalur Kitchen & Bar, he proposed within 10 minutes of their arrival, in front of family and friends, including Bilt couple Ankur Jain and Erika Hammond.

Four Bridges String Quartet performed “Cowboy Take Me Away” by the Chicks as Spevak asked Peters to marry him. Peters said the song represented her late grandmother, Irene Castillo, who died three years ago and had met Spevak only through FaceTime.

Personal touches and tears

Peters said Spevak knelt and asked her to be his wife, while she cried and apologized. “It was freakin’ water works the whole time,” she said, adding that he had to ask again.

The weekend included Sunnyside Events, floral and textile designer Muñoz Taller de Diseño, and Mariachi Femenil Flores Mexicanas, an all-female mariachi group. Spevak also delivered a speech in Spanish, which Peters said he read from his phone, and wore cowboy boots instead of his usual street sneakers.

Peters packed white outfits after becoming suspicious about a desert trip with no family event as an explanation. She wore a L’Agence dress from Bergdorf to receive her ring.

How their relationship began

Peters and Spevak first crossed paths when she and former colleague Rosanna Scotto interviewed him by satellite during the pandemic. Peters said Scotto “planted the seed”; the couple later met at a Hamptons party and began a relationship.

Spevak called Peters “an incredibly special person” and said he looked forward to building their future together. At the end of the engagement evening, DJ La Flaquita Anali played music at Kala BajaMed, while Spevak arranged Taco Bell snacks because Peters loves it.

Hopes for a Mexico wedding

Peters said she hopes their wedding will be as magical as the engagement night. She would like to marry in Mexico, with more mariachi music and plenty of tequila.
