Amazon’s Echo line is here: 6 biggest changes to its speakers and smart-home gear

A thinner Echo Show 16
The new Echo Show 16 has a 16-inch screen set in an anodized aluminum frame. Amazon says it is nearly 40 percent thinner than the previous model, and buyers can choose a Nanomatte display intended to reduce glare.
Photo frame and Dot updates
Amazon’s new digital photo frame has a semi-matte, 10-inch touchscreen and syncs with Amazon Photos. Alexa Plus can select pictures using details such as who appears in them, when they were taken, and sentiment; users can also choose people or request particular images.
The frame costs $199.99 in black, or $229 in birch or walnut. The updated Echo Dot, priced at $99.99, adds a smart home hub, Omnisense, an AZ3 chip, four microphones, and a built-in Eero Wi-Fi extender. Amazon says its new full-range driver delivers 50 percent more bass than the prior generation.
Camera comes to Echo Studio
Amazon has added a camera to the Echo Studio, allowing users to view a livestream of a room remotely or ask Alexa about something shown to the camera. Examples from Amazon include asking about a board game’s rules or requesting a different cereal flavor.
The Echo Studio with Home Camera costs $249.99 in black, and its optional stand is $39.99. Amazon says it will soon work with compatible Fire TVs to support video calls on a larger screen.
Alarm clock and home map
The Echo Time is a smart alarm clock with a circular, 3.2-inch touchscreen and customizable clock faces and layouts. Its optional smart alarm can wake users 10 to 60 minutes before their set time if they are in a lighter sleep, using Omnisense to assess temperature and presence. The display brightens in the morning and dims at night.
The Echo Time costs $199.99 in black, white, or pink. A Kids Echo Time starts at $209.99, and an adjustable stand costs $39.99. Alexa Home Map creates an interactive 3D view of a home’s interior and exterior, showing devices such as Echo products, Ring and Blink cameras, Fire TV, lights, locks, and thermostats. Amazon says users can create a map by entering their address, scanning rooms with a compatible iPhone, and placing devices; the map is also available in the Ring app.
