9-1-1: Nashville Stars Reveal Which Classic Disaster They Want to Steal for the Show

A disaster-driven franchise

ABC’s 9-1-1 has built a reputation for emergencies that unfold across multiple episodes. Its stories have included train derailments, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and a cruise ship disaster. The popular series has spawned two spin-offs. The first, 9-1-1: Lone Star, followed Texas first responders and has ended; the currently airing 9-1-1: Nashville is set in Tennessee.

Nashville opens with a crisis

The Nashville spin-off launched with a tornado and stadium-collapse storyline spanning its opening episodes. In the premiere, a powerful tornado strikes a country music festival in Nashville. Captain Don Hart and Fire Station 113 respond to urgent rescue situations. The opening arc gave the new series a large-scale emergency from the outset.

Kilgore names the tsunami

Collider’s Maggie Lovitt spoke with series stars Hailey Kilgore and Juani Feliz for Collider Set Stories, where they were asked which emergency they would like Nashville to take on. Kilgore singled out the tsunami from the original series’ Season 3 opener. She said, “One of my favorite rescues/episodes from the original 9-1-1 is the tsunami episode.”

She described wanting a scenario that splits up the team and leaves rescuers relying on their abilities as communication fails. The tsunami storyline has been counted among the show’s most popular emergencies.
