Turning grief into a lure
In IT: Welcome to Derry, Pennywise says, “Come to Papa!” to Ingrid Kersh, exploiting her distress over her father’s disappearance. The creature caused that disappearance, though Ingrid does not know this.

Jokes amid real danger
In the 1990 miniseries, Pennywise appears to Richie in a library full of people and tells him a joke. Richie realizes nobody else can see the clown, leaving him isolated despite the crowd.
Another taunt comes as Pennywise attacks Noreen at the Black Spot. While eating and dismembering her, he says, “What’s the matter? Do I have face on my face?” to the child Ronnie Grogan.
A threat in the shower
Pennywise also targets Eddie while the boy is taking a shower. The clown claws up through a floor grate and tells Eddie that he “just wanted to say hello.” The encounter ends with Pennywise telling Eddie, “See you in your dreams.” Tim Curry played the clown in the miniseries, while Bill Skarsgård played him in the movies and Welcome to Derry.
