Street Fighter Suffers Brutal 72% Box Office Collapse in Second Weekend

Clayface takes the weekend lead

Street Fighter led the weekend box office in its opening frame, earning $30 million despite mediocre reviews. In its second weekend, the film’s box office fell 72% as new competition arrived.

DC’s Clayface topped the domestic chart with $24 million, while Street Fighter dropped down the leaderboard. The steep decline has raised doubts about the film’s ability to build a strong theatrical run.

A difficult comparison with Mortal Kombat II

Street Fighter had been aiming to surpass Mortal Kombat II, which opened domestically with $38 million. Mortal Kombat II finished its box office run with around $80 million. Mortal Kombat II is considered an underperformer, and Street Fighter now appears headed toward a similar outcome.

Reviews offer little support

Directed by Kitao Sakurai, Street Fighter stars Noah Centineo and Andrew Koji. Its supporting cast includes Andrew Schulz, Cody Rhodes, Eric André and Don Lee. The film has a 41% Rotten Tomatoes score, compared with Mortal Kombat II’s 63% earlier this year. Rotten Tomatoes’ consensus praises its style and affection for the source material but criticizes its storytelling and humor.
