When Is Thanksgiving 2026? Date and Travel Planning

What date is Thanksgiving in 2026?

Thanksgiving Day in the United States is Thursday, November 26, 2026 ¹. If you are adding it to a calendar or arranging a visit, that is the date to plan around.

Thanksgiving is observed on the fourth Thursday of November. Congress set that rule in 1941 ¹. In 2026, November has four Thursdays—November 5, 12, 19 and 26—so the fourth Thursday is also the last Thursday of the month ¹.

How long is the Thanksgiving 2026 weekend?

The holiday falls on a Thursday, so the days immediately after it are Friday, November 27, Saturday, November 28, and Sunday, November 29. Whether those days are time off depends on each person's work, school or other commitments.

A recent road-trip guide describes the long weekend as an opportunity for a trip, particularly for people who have the Friday after Thanksgiving off ¹. That is a possibility, not a guarantee that every traveler has four days free.

How can I plan travel around Thanksgiving Day?

Start with the fixed date, then decide whether your plans involve travel on the holiday itself, the surrounding days, or both. Confirm your time off and the dates you need to arrive and return before choosing a route or destination.

If you are driving, allow time for the journey and check conditions and local guidance close to departure. The supplied road-trip source notes seasonal driving cautions, but it does not give a nationwide traffic forecast or specific road conditions for November 2026 ¹.

Where could I go for a Thanksgiving road trip?

One 2026 guide suggests routes in 10 states, with examples ranging from historic sites in Plymouth to national parks in Utah ¹. It presents these as a selection, not a ranking, and says some trips can center on one city while others are suited to multiple days ¹.

A separate travel-industry announcement highlights a list of 30 destinations in the Americas and Caribbean ². The supplied material does not include the full list or enough detail to assess each destination, so treat it as a starting point for your own research rather than a complete itinerary.

What should I keep in mind before making plans?

The date is established, but travel details are not. The sources provided do not say what fares, accommodation availability, traffic or weather will be like for your particular route.

Check current information from transport providers, accommodation operators and official local sources as your plans take shape. If your trip includes a park or historic site, confirm its opening arrangements directly; the source material does not establish holiday hours.
