Sinestro Yellow Lantern Corps Origin in the Comics Explained Through Fear

Sinestro’s fall from the Corps
Thaal Sinestro became known as a highly capable Green Lantern after eliminating crime on Korugar. He believed fear of punishment could keep order better than the Guardians’ reliance on individual willpower, and imposed authoritarian rule.
Hal Jordan uncovered Sinestro’s dictatorship. The Guardians took away his ring and banished him to Qward, an antimatter universe, where he found weapons that opposed Green Lantern rings and began building a faction around fear. Booster Gold later offered an unusual explanation for the faction’s name: he suggested “Sinestro Corps” while trying to manipulate Sinestro.
Building a force of fear
Sinestro recruited warriors from across the universe and gave them yellow power rings fueled by their own Central Power Battery. The Corps followed a hierarchy centered on Sinestro and sought out particularly dangerous recruits.
Arkillo became one of the group’s prominent enforcers. In Sinestro Corps War, Sinestro launched a major assault on the Green Lanterns, establishing the Yellow Lanterns as a military force that could challenge both the Corps and the Guardians’ authority.
Notable members and recruits
The Corps included Arkillo, a brutal alien who served as drill instructor, and Lyssa Drak, keeper of the Book of Parallax. Other members included marksman Bedovian, warrior Karu-Sil, Amon Sur, and Despotellis, a sentient virus able to infect and kill from within.
Temporary recruits included Mongul and Hank Henshaw, also known as Cyborg Superman. The Anti-Monitor was also part of the Corps after the Weaponers of Qward rebuilt him. During Sinestro Corps War, a yellow ring chose Batman for his ability to inspire fear, but he rejected it and removed it before becoming a full member. Scarecrow embraced a fear-powered ring during Blackest Night.
