Scotland faces fresh weather warnings as third storm approaches

Wind warning for southwest
A yellow wind warning covers south-west Scotland from 18:00 on Monday until 03:00 on Tuesday. The Met Office forecast gusts reaching 65mph (105km/h) in coastal communities during that period.
The approaching system has not been named. Forecasters expect it to have a more limited impact than Storm Boelo and Storm Austen, which struck in recent days.
Storm damage and power repairs
Storm Boelo brought flooding and winds reaching 85mph (137km/h) in some places. A caravan was blown over on a coastal road in Aberdeen, while the River Leven flooded Dumbarton Golf Club on Sunday.
Scottish and Southern Energy Networks said about 15,000 homes in its northern area were still without power on Monday evening. Nearly 100,000 homes across both areas had their electricity restored over the weekend.
Travel and school disruption
ScotRail reported that most services were operating normally. CalMac warned that west coast sailings could still be disrupted or cancelled at short notice, and advised passengers to check for updates.
Flood risks and public advice
Sepa issued an amber flood risk for the northern and Western Isles, as well as Caithness and Sutherland. Police Scotland said disruption remained a significant risk, with poor conditions forecast for Tuesday.
Housing Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville said the prolonged spell created challenges ahead. She urged people to help make households resilient and look out for neighbours and friends.
