Rebecca Ferguson’s Ridley Scott-Inspired Sci-Fi Replacement Officially Leaves Free Streaming

Ferguson’s busy sci-fi year
Ferguson began 2026 with Mercy, playing an AI-powered judge, then returned for the third season of Apple TV’s Silo. The season received a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
In December, she is set to reprise her role as Lady Jessica in Dune: Part Three, the final installment of Denis Villeneuve’s trilogy. Life offers viewers another entry in her science-fiction work.
A 2017 ensemble film
Directed by Daniel Espinosa, Life was released in 2017. Espinosa also directed Safe House and Child 44, while Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote the film after working on Deadpool.
The cast includes Ferguson, Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal and Hiroyuki Sanada. The film was produced by Skydance’s current top brass and distributed by Sony.
Alien influence, not Venom
Life was sometimes the subject of rumors that it was a Venom prequel, but it had no connection to the Tom Hardy-led series. Its creative debt instead ran to Ridley Scott’s Alien. The film is currently available to stream for free in the United States, but it is scheduled to leave its streaming home soon.
