Now on HBO Max, James McAvoy’s twisted horror nightmare officially conquers streaming

A successful horror remake

Speak No Evil, directed and written by James Watkins, remade the 2022 Danish-Dutch film of the same name. McAvoy starred alongside Scoot McNairy, Mackenzie Davis and Aisling Franciosi.

Box office performance

The remake took in $77 million worldwide, with $37 million from domestic theaters and $40 million from overseas markets. Its production budget was $15 million. The film also beat Deadpool & Wolverine at the box office during its opening weekend. That performance made it a notable commercial success during spooky season.

At the time reported, Speak No Evil ranked among the ten most-streamed movies on HBO Max in the U.S. The streaming chart placed the film back among popular titles two years after its release.

McAvoy also stars in Faith, Paul Andrew Williams’ British supernatural drama, alongside Erin Doherty. The film premiered at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival and received mixed reviews from attendees.
