The Gilded Age Season 4 Officially Kicks Off Next Week on HBO: What to Know

A return to 1880s New York

The series portrays the lives of old-money and new-money families in 1880s New York City, a period marked by great income inequality. New money is represented by George and Bertha Russell, played by Morgan Spector and Carrie Coon, and their children, Larry and Gladys.

Across the street are dowager sisters Agnes van Rhijn and Ada Forte, played by Christine Baranski and Cynthia Nixon. They have taken in their orphaned niece, Marian Brook, portrayed by Louisa Jacobson, putting further pressure on their depleted finances.

Peggy Scott, played by Denée Benton, represents the lives of New York’s Black community. She works as Agnes’ secretary and is Marian’s best friend.

Weekly episodes through December

The fourth season premieres November 1 on HBO and HBO Max. Its eight episodes are scheduled to arrive weekly, ending with the season finale on December 20. The new season continues the show’s mix of romance, heartbreak and elaborate costumes. The returning story brings its contrasting households and their social worlds back into focus.

A cast album is coming

Voices of the Gilded Age: The Christmas Album is also expected soon. It features contributions from cast members, many of whom are noted Broadway veterans.
