Seatbelts to be added to Goliath coaster as Six Flags announces safety measures following rider death

New restraints planned for Goliath
Six Flags announced Saturday that it plans to install seatbelts on Goliath at its Georgia park. The coaster had lap-bar restraints, the company said. The announcement came nearly two weeks after a rider died after falling from the ride. Police said Kariem, 42, was thrown from the coaster, struck other patrons and fell beneath the attraction.
Safety review spans company parks
Six Flags said it has brought in independent engineers and ride inspection specialists to review safety procedures across its parks and attractions. The company said it would assess their findings and take appropriate steps to strengthen its safety standards and culture.
Similar coasters remain closed
After the incident, Six Flags temporarily shut nine similar coasters as a precaution. One, Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain, has reopened, according to the park. On Saturday, the company said eight of those coasters were still closed and would receive seatbelts or other restraints. The park and police investigations are ongoing, with reports that other people were injured.
