A crossover at Game One

The preview appeared during the World Series opener on Fox, as the Brewers hosted the Rays. MLB had teased a Doomsday preview on Thursday with a video showing players looking toward dark green skies.

In the crossover, Junior Caminero, Jacob Misiorowski, Freddie Freeman, Bryce Harper and Randy Arozarena watch Reed Richards, played by Pedro Pascal, throw the first pitch at Ebbets Field. Scenes imagine heroes including Captain America and Thor taking the mound.

Doom interrupts the game

Doctor Doom’s arrival sends Harper and the others running, while Freeman stays to watch the fight. Misiorowski is especially impressed by Reed Richards’ stretch. The preview comes as Marvel Studios steps up promotion for Doomsday, its biggest film since Avengers: Endgame. The movie is less than two months away, though many details remain unknown despite multiple trailers and character information.

A darker threat ahead

The story is expected to feature a darker takeover of the MCU, with Doom posing a threat compared with Thanos. Earth is also without many of the heroes who fought in the last climactic battle. Sebastian Stan, returning as Bucky Barnes, said he expected the film to be “probably heartbreaking, in a lot of ways.” Anthony Mackie also warned that “Everyone is expendable.”

A first title for one team

The Brewers and Rays have never won the pennant, so the series will produce a new champion regardless of the result. The fall classic is scheduled to unfold over the next week. The matchup features Misiorowski and the Brewers against Caminero and the Rays, with both clubs carrying the hopes of their fans and cities.
