Nicky Hayen sacked as Burnley head coach after only 14 games in charge

A short spell at Burnley
Hayen was appointed on 10 July to replace Scott Parker, who left at the end of April, days after Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed. The Belgian had not previously worked in English football.
Results leave Clarets struggling
Saturday’s loss to Lincoln means Burnley have collected only one win in their last 24 league games. They have also conceded 25 goals across their first 12 Championship matches, the highest total in the division.
The defeat was described as another difficult day in a season that has left Burnley deep in the relegation mire. The club are in their sixth season of moving between Premier League relegation and Championship promotion.
Hayen had questioned his future
Before his departure was announced, Hayen said after a match that his future was beyond his control. He told reporters, “I'm not going to lose my energy,” referring to the situation.
Before the news, he also told BBC Radio Lancashire that results were not good enough and that supporters deserved much more. Burnley’s latest accounts, to July 2025, put gross financial debt at £142m, an increase of £30m that included outstanding transfer fees.
